Practice Gratitude & Thanksgiving… Put to Death Envy
“Thanksgiving is the chief exercise of the Christian life; it is the very heart of true worship.”
– Martin Luther
-
Each evening before sleep, each spouse names three specific things they are grateful for – at least one of which must be something about their spouse that day.
-
Together, create a timeline of God's faithfulness in your marriage – key moments, answered prayers, breakthroughs, provisions, and healings. Review it annually. This is the practice of Ebenezer (1 Samuel 7:12) – building stones of remembrance.
-
Make it a personal prayer habit to thank God specifically for your spouse – their qualities, presence, growth, and role in your sanctification.
-
When a difficult season comes, practice the discipline of asking together: "What might God be doing in this? What can we be thankful for even here?" This is not toxic positivity – it is biblical hope (Romans 8:28).
