Practice Humility… Put to Death Pride

  • Drawn from John 13: once a month, one spouse intentionally takes the role of servant for a day – doing tasks the other normally carries. Do this without announcing it, keeping score, or expecting reciprocation.

  • Monthly, individually journal through these questions:

    Where did pride show up in my marriage this month?
    Where did I need to be right more than I needed to be kind?
    Where did I prioritize my comfort over my spouse's flourishing?

  • Work through C.S. Lewis's chapter on pride in Mere Christianity (Book 3, Chapter 8) or Andrew Murray's Humility together. Discuss the reading together.

  • Practice asking your spouse for help regularly and explicitly, rather than assuming or silently expecting. This is a posture of dependence that dismantles self-sufficiency.
