Practice Prayer & Dependence… Put to Death Self-reliance
“Prayer is the stronghold of the Christian life. In dependence on God alone we find our true security.”
– St. Cyprian of Carthage
-
Commit to praying together daily, even if only for 2-5 minutes. Hold hands, take turns, and keep it honest. Starting is the discipline – length grows over time.
-
Use a simple structure, such as ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) or PRAY (Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield), to give your prayer time both shape and breadth.
-
Select a passage or Psalm and pray it over your spouse by name, inserting their name into the text. (e.g., Ephesians 3:16-19 – "I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen [name] with power through His Spirit in the inner being...")
-
Once a month, take a walk together with the primary purpose of praying aloud for your family, your church, your city, and your marriage. Walking prayer is embodied, unhurried, and surprisingly powerful.
